Grade One Selfies

We took a lot of time working with our grade six buddies to make our selfies. Bridget is very creative! I like how Laura did her selfie. -Naya

Halloween Fun

We have had so much fun doing Halloween activities at school.  On Friday, we did some pumpkin math.  We cut open our class pumpkin and counted all the seeds using 10 frames.  We were shocked that our pumpkin had 535 seeds!
Today we had a Halloween parade throughout the whole school, then we had our class party.  We had so much fun dressing up!  Hope you like our costumes!

Pattern Math centers

 We had our first math centers yesterday and the students loved them!  They worked hard at each center to make patterns.  They also got to play a game on the SmartBoard called Fruit Fall which worked on their graphing and counting skills.

We made patterns with paper shapes.  I worked with Hayden and Naya. -Laura

Terry Fox Walk

We did the Terry Fox walk to raise money for cancer research. -Laura

It was a nice day outside!  I liked walking!-Logan

Grade One Community Field Trip 2016

Tennis Ball S.T.E.M. Challenge

This week at school in our grade one class we did a S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) challenge where the students had to design a structure that would hold up a tennis ball for at least 10 seconds and the higher the structure the better!  They worked together so well, nobody gave up, and through a lot of trial and error, each group was successful in their design.  Through respectful communication, they worked collaboratively on developing their problem solving, and critical thinking skills.  It was amazing!  You can see by the pictures how proud they were of their designs!

Pizza Day

Today we had pizza day! It was fun! -Ella

We stretched out the dough and put it on a tray. Then we put sauce and toppings on. -Emma

Pink Day!

Today was Pink Day in support of anti-bullying awareness.  I was very impressed that every student in our class wore something pink today!  We were also thrilled to have "Zeus", from the Harlem Globetrotters come and talk to our school about anti-bullying.  He was amazing!  Zeus told us about when he was a little boy and he got bullied and how it made him feel.  He talked to the kids about ways to deal with bullying and what they should do if they are being bullied or see someone being bullied.  He ended off his presentation with some really cool tricks and slam dunks!  It was awesome!

St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Hunt

We made leprechaun traps and set them up to try to catch a leprechaun. -Alexis
When we got to school there was a big mess!!! -Logan
The leprechaun made a big mess, switched our shoes around, and gave us candy. -Parker

The leprechaun got paint on his feet and made footprints on our desks and Mrs. Bailey's desk.  He took his pants back and said "Thanks Love Lucky". -Paige
We looked for the leprechaun inside and out, but we didn't find him.  We even looked in the office. -Emma

Mrs. Bailey hid the paint but he still found it! -Haley
We saw some bubbles and green out in the playground. We think it was a leprechaun. -Reid
We found green stickers on the ground.  We saw leprechaun footprints in the office.  -Leslee

We were screaming because the leprechaun was here!!! -Ella
The leprechaun even made footprints on the door. -Lucas

We Love Dr. Seuss Books

 We ate green eggs and ham. -Carter

I got to try green eggs and ham for my first time.  I found out that I love them! -Paige

The egg yolk was just green food colouring. -Sadie
